Apprentices & Trainees

The Government is supporting small businesses to retain their apprentices and trainees. Eligible employers can apply for a wage subsidy of up to 50% of the wages for the apprentice or trainee.

To be eligible, you must have less than 20 employees and your apprentice or trainee must have been in training as at 1 March 2020.

Wage Subsidy

  • 50% of wages from 1 January 2020 to 30 September 2020
  • Will be paid in 3 installments of up to $7,000 to a maximum of $21,000

What if I cannot keep or I take on a new apprentice or trainee?

If you are unable to keep your apprentice or trainee, the subsidy will be available to the new employer. The subsidy is also available to the new apprentice or trainee that replaces the one who departs.

More Information

These payments are administered by the Australian Apprenticeship Support Network Providers, so speak to your provider.
